Ice cream chronicles: delayed
Jul. 27th, 2011 07:35 pmLe Sigh.
I have this long, plotty tale of awesome about the next item in the Ice Cream Chronicles. Best darkest dark chocolate ice cream in the world is the name of the recipe, I think, but I don't have the book handy. It's another non-custard cream.
I made it this weekend. Hey, we've got half a gallon of whipping cream that needs to be used up. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Also, it's freaking 101 outside.
Unfortunately, I've tried to post about it eleventy11!!!one times and it keeps getting eaten.
To sum up:
Whipping cream, lots
plus
Dark chocolate, lots
plus
Ghiradelhi cocoa, lots
plus
cream cheese/fancy organic vanilla extract/turbanado sugar/etc
plus
freezing in ice cream maker
equals
AWESOME
What's not so awesome is this freaking heat wave. My car's AC can't get checked out by the good mechanic until Friday and by the time I made it into work today, I was drenched. I think tomorrow I shall pack a spare shirt to change into. Gah. It's supposed to maybe kinda sorta thunderstorm and the ground is so dry it'll probably flood. Again. But any moisture would be welcome, really, because I'm starting to worry for the trees.

Date: 2011-07-28 01:42 am (UTC)We tried the smashed cucumber salad (except for the molasses, which I forgot). Fresh mint & raspberries from the garden, though the fresh dill was from the store. It's pretty neat! I think maybe we didn't smash them small enough, but they were so good it didn't matter.
Next I need to make tsatsiki sauce.

Date: 2011-07-28 01:56 am (UTC)I am loving the ice cream, but I admit upfront that every time I make it, I shake my head and mutter: "no eggs, what the hell."

Date: 2011-07-28 02:11 am (UTC)I am looking forward to getting the ice cream book from the library, so I can run the nutrients -- regular custard-based ice cream can have surprisingly little sugar, which is the thing I have trouble with.
