Dear Mormon Church: how nice of u, pls to fuck off

Apparently, the Mormon Church has realized that discriminating against gay people for living places and jobs is, like, wrong.  And stuff.  

Because as church leaders and Jesus-followers, Mormons should be kind to the wrongity-bad-wrong fucked up souls who love their own sex.  These people deserve our compassion, doncha know, and like, should be allowed to hold jobs.

Yeah.

Wow.

So impressed am I at your stellar record of awesomeness towards little sinners like me.  This acknowledgement that I should be able to have housing and jobs JUST MAKES ME THINK MORMONS ARE TOTES THE MOST COMPASSIONATE.  Cuz what could possibly be more compassionate than that.

Am I right?

They're on the ropes, politically, and they want Romney to run. Besides, they can see that the Supreme Court's going to be forcing state-to-state acknowledgement of marriages and the like, soon. The younger generation than me are about 90% or something in favor of same sex marriage. They're so convinced it's right, they find the debates baffling. Why the hell wouldn't you recognize it? That's something that makes me happy, and which I'd never expected (given that I grew up in the Bible belt and still live there). But this move? So. Fucking. Transparent.

I'm not sure they even realize how they sound.

When I was young [and troubled], I *did* go around worrying fretfully if Everyone Everywhere could see how Deeply Wrong I was. I *knew* I wasn't Right In the Head. I knew there was something wrong with me. So, I suppose, if I'd been fifteen when it came out, I'd have a different, more positive response. (At least they don't HATE me! Wow!)

Nowadays....

I'm pretty fuckin' proud to say that I spend my every days believing there's nothing wrong with me. I think I'm a perfectly fine human being, no more nor less flawed than anybody else. I think I deserve a job if I'm qualified and a house if I can pay.

So, for someone to say, 'Hey, guess what, we've just decided you actually *do* deserve to be, like, housed' is deeply disconcerting.

Which, in a way, is a good thing. But it's more a good thing about CBT/narrative therapy/supportive friends/supportive community than it is about that church.

Yeah, this is....not a day late and a dollar short, I don't even know what this is. "Well Jesus said we should love even BAD people, so come here, baby!".....NO. Just no.

I mean if it makes life easier for queer people in Utah in terms of less discrimination in housing/medical care/employment, that's good, but I don't think that's the Church's primary goal. Fuckers.

Yeah, if it helps LGBT in Utah, I'm glad, but I just have no belief whatsoever that it's about that. It's a political move, probably to do with Romney running again. Or whatever. I'm just so disgusted. Ugh.

that's what I tell myself anyway

....IIRC Jesus was all about 'we ALL are the rabble,' not 'we are so much better than the rabble we must love them too, poor misguided rabble,' but what do I know. (also some comments about the rabble actually getting ABOVE the rich and powerful in His Dad's sight, but that was probably, uh, mistranslation or something)

I so hope you're right about Romney. I can't face him as pres. Canada would start appealing again.

Yeah, all that 'Above all other commandments, Love thy neighbor as theyself' was probably just mistranslated and left out the bit about 'UNLESS we don't like 'em.'

Plus, you just know the 'it's more likely for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than a rich man to go to heaven' was JUST A TYPO.

Altho apparently we are looking at a Hillary/Romney punchup in 16. I....really don't know about that. I hope Biden runs. Except then we'd have a Hillary/Biden runoff. AUGH.
